Real wood, installed by a family that's been at this for generations

Flooring and Stone of Denton has installed hardwood across Denton County since 2020, but the craftsmanship goes back further than that - Guadalupe Martinez spent 30 years as a master tile installer before he and Ulysses opened the business, and that same standard for flat subfloors and patient, careful work carries straight over into every hardwood job we run.

We supply and install [solid hardwood](/real-solid-hardwood-flooring), [engineered hardwood](/engineered-hardwood), and custom parquet from Mohawk and Mannington, and our in-house crew handles every step - removal, subfloor leveling, installation, staining, and finish.

Solid or engineered - it usually comes down to your slab

Most newer construction in Denton County - Robson Ranch, Argyle, Corinth, Little Elm - sits on a concrete slab, and the Blackland Prairie clay underneath it expands and contracts with the seasons more than homeowners expect. That movement, combined with humid summers and dry winters, is exactly why the choice between solid and engineered matters more here than it does in a lot of the country.

  • Solid hardwood - full 3/4" wood plank, nailed down, refinishable 5-7 times over its life. Best over a plywood subfloor, typically on pier-and-beam homes or upper levels.
  • Engineered hardwood - a real wood wear layer over a stable plywood core that resists the humidity swings and slab movement common across North Texas.
  • Wide planks (5"-7") - available in either construction for a more modern look
  • Custom parquet, herringbone, and chevron patterns in solid or engineered

Species and stain, matched to your home

Red and white oak make up most of what we install - durable, takes stain evenly, and ages the way you'd expect real wood to. Hickory is the hardest domestic species and holds up well in an active household; maple gives a cleaner, more uniform grain; walnut and cherry bring in a richer, darker tone for a formal room. We bring sample boards to your home so you're picking a stain under your own lighting, not off a printed swatch.

Installation and refinishing

We install nail-down, glue-down, and floating hardwood depending on what the subfloor calls for, and every job includes moisture testing, subfloor leveling, and baseboard removal and reinstall. If your existing hardwood just needs new life instead of a full tear-out, we also handle dustless sanding, staining, and modern water-based finishes. For a staircase to match, see [hardwood stairs](/hardwood-stairs) - or [book a free estimate](/free-estimate) and we'll look at the whole project together.

Installation and refinishing

Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions

It depends mostly on your subfloor. Slab-on-grade homes, which cover most of newer Denton County, do best with engineered hardwood. Older homes on a raised, pier-and-beam foundation - common closer to the downtown square - can usually take solid hardwood.

Most whole-home installs run 2 to 4 days. Refinishing existing hardwood adds another 3 to 5 days for sanding, staining, and finish cure.

Engineered hardwood handles a kitchen well since the plywood core stays stable through spills and humidity. We don't recommend solid hardwood there.

We bring sample boards in your species and stain so we can match closely, and for a seamless blend we can refinish the existing floor at the same time so the whole space reads as one continuous floor.
